Texas Salary Calculator methodology

This page documents how the Texas Salary Calculator produces estimated take-home pay. Calculations run entirely in your browser; salary inputs are not sent to our servers.

Last reviewed: January 15, 2026 (tax year 2026 parameters)

Tax year

The calculator uses tax year 2026 federal income tax brackets, standard deductions and FICA rates. Texas state individual income tax on wages is modeled at 0%.

Inputs

  • Annual gross salary or hourly rate annualized as rate × hours × weeks
  • Pay frequency (weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, monthly, annual)
  • Federal filing status
  • Optional annual pre-tax deductions (for example 401(k) or HSA)

Pay frequency

Annual tax amounts are divided by the number of pay periods per year: 52 weekly, 26 biweekly, 24 semi-monthly, 12 monthly or 1 annual. Per-period figures are rounded to cents for display.

Federal income tax estimate

  1. Start with annual gross wages minus pre-tax deductions you enter.
  2. Subtract the 2026 standard deduction for your filing status.
  3. Apply marginal federal brackets to positive taxable income.

This is a simplified annualized estimate. It does not replicate IRS Publication 15-T withholding tables, W-4 adjustments, credits or itemized deductions.

FICA

  • Social Security: 6.2% on wages up to $184,500 (2026 wage base).
  • Medicare: 1.45% on all covered wages.
  • Additional Medicare: 0.9% on wages above the IRS threshold for your filing status (employee portion).

Texas state income tax

Texas does not impose a personal income tax on individual wage income. The calculator shows $0 Texas state income tax and still includes federal taxes.

Take-home pay

Estimated annual take-home equals gross wages minus pre-tax deductions, minus estimated federal income tax, minus estimated FICA. Effective tax rate equals total estimated taxes divided by gross wages.
