Editorial policy

How Texas Salary Calculator researches sources, verifies figures, tests calculators, and handles corrections.

Research and source selection

We prioritize primary government and official sources—for example IRS and SSA publications for federal tax rules, Texas Comptroller guidance for state tax treatment, and BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) for occupational wages. Secondary sources such as O*NET wage tables may be used to present the same official figures in a readable format. We do not treat generic salary websites as authoritative data sources.

Verification

Important factual claims are checked against the cited source documents before publication. Salary pages label the data period (for example May 2025 BLS OEWS) separately from the page review date.

Calculators

Tax and guideline formulas are implemented in code and checked with automated tests using known scenarios. The methodology page describes assumptions and limitations. Calculator inputs stay in your browser unless you choose to email us.

Salary and wage data

We distinguish median from mean, percentiles from entry-level offers, and government surveys from job postings or association surveys when those topics appear on a page. Metro area names follow BLS geography definitions, not city limits alone.

Corrections

If you believe a figure, link, or formula is wrong, please contact us with the page URL and the official source you are referencing. We verify against the source, update data or code as needed, re-run tests when calculations change, and update review metadata when content is materially reviewed.

Updates

Tax parameters are updated when IRS and SSA publish annual figures. Wage pages are updated when new BLS OEWS releases are available for the occupations we cover.

Automation and AI

Software tools may assist with research organization, coding, or drafting, but published numbers, source links, calculations, and user-facing claims are reviewed before release. We do not publish unverified generated statistics, marketing filler, or vague “latest data” wording when a specific BLS or IRS source year is available.

Pages favor tables, sourced figures, and short explanations—not long generic articles or emotional storytelling.
